What's New in the Redesigned 2018 Ford Expedition?

This fall, a new model is coming to Scott Ford. It's actually an old familiar nameplate, completely redesigned to be bigger and better than ever before. We're talking about the 2018 Ford Expedition.

It's been quite some time since Ford made any significant changes to this full-size SUV, which is a shame. This is a vehicle with serious potential... for the right family.

Most SUV buyers these days are going for smaller, more efficient crossovers, with car-like unibody construction, and nimble handling. The Expedition, on the other hand, is a classic. It uses body-on-frame construction like a truck to be more rugged where the pavement ends. The 2018 model can tow up to 9,300 pounds, and is standard in rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available.

This truck-like performance comes with the same drawbacks trucks face, too. It's heavier and less efficient—though the 2018 redesign is working to mitigate that.

Like the F-150, it will now sport an aluminum body, shedding 300 pounds in the process. Its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, paired with a new 10-speed automatic, should boost both power and fuel economy (though exact specifications are still forthcoming from Ford).

Pair this capable performance with seating for eight passengers, over 108 cubic feet of cargo space, and the latest in SYNC 3 technology, and you've got a solid contender for a family vehicle.
