The Value of Regular Service on Belts and Hoses

Your car houses several different belts and hoses that are critical to the performance of your vehicle. Unfortunately, many car owners ignore their importance and do not consider them an integral part of their vehicle's routine maintenance. Here are some of the consequences drivers face when they fail to maintain essential belts and hoses.

Your car is equipped with a timing belt. This belt turns your car's crankshaft, which then turns your car's camshaft. Your camshaft opens your engine's valves in sync with the pistons. If your timing belt starts to fail, it can cause catastrophic engine damage.

Your car also has what is called a serpentine belt. This all-in-one belt supplies power to your car's alternator, cooling fan, power steering pump and air conditioner compressor. If this belt fails, all the moving parts it supplies power to will fail, and your car will start to overheat.

Come see us today at Scott Ford, and let one of our technicians inspect your belts and hoses for cracks or unusual wear and tear.
